The CPO Summit San Francisco is fast approaching, so we caught up with Laura Marino, CPO at TrueML to get an insight into her session and what she's most looking forward to.
Please could you introduce yourself?
Hello, I'm Laura Marino. I've been leading product teams in large and small organizations across a variety of industries for longer than I'm willing to confess. I'm currently the Chief Product Officer at True Ml, a B2B2C fin-tech company. I also lecture on product management at Stanford and other universities, and I'm a board member of Leading Women in Technology, a nonprofit, advancing women in leadership.
What will you be discussing at the upcoming CPO Summit?
Jessica Sweeney and I will be having a fireside chat to discuss the unique challenges that CPOs and product leaders face in B2B and B2B2C companies, especially when they have large enterprise customers or when they are operating in highly regulated industries.
What do you think the top three priorities should be for CPOs right now?
The CPO role is relatively new and it's different from any other product leadership role in that a CPO is a C-level executive and is expected to understand the entwined business, including financials, shareholder priorities and customer market perspective so that they can help drive decisions at that level. So the top areas for CPOs to focus on should be understanding and helping define corporate strategy, aligning product strategy to corporate strategy and building and developing a strong product organization and a strong product culture to ensure successful execution.
What are you looking forward to most about the CPO Summit?
Well, I'm really looking forward to exchanging war stories and learning from my peers. There's a lot that you cannot learn from reading books and articles, and it's just great to be able to hear directly those experiences from others.
